It's Combine Time Again

Fire up your Mel Kiper haricuts, cause it's time to take a good, long look at this year's rookies. The NFL Combine begins this weekend and a lot of players's stock will rise and fall based on a tenth of a second or a single bench press. Some franchises will be betting their futures on the performances of these young men in Indianapolis next week. Hundreds of players will be evaluated and your team will probably select at least a half dozen of them, What can you do to study up on who might be donning your team's cap on draft day? Check out the myriad of mock drafts that have been infesting the internet.

Mock drafts are simply someone's guess as to what team will pick what player at what point. Sure, they're not very accurate, especially at this stage of the off-season. But they do give you an enlightening snapshot of what people perceive are needs for your team and what player might be taken to fill said need if the draft were held right now.

A few weeks ago, on my blog, I examined about forty sites and who they have the Bengals picking. This Sunday, I'll revisit those sites, see if they've changed their prediction, and look at more sites that have piped up since then. A few of these sites even take risks and predict who will be drafted after the first round. I know most of you don't really care who my team is taking, but you can look at these sites and check out your team's prospects. The best site I've seen that has links to over 90 mock drafts is hailredskins. It keeps track of when the sites are updated, too. (It also monitors who the Redskins selection will be if anyone cares.) If no one minds, I'm gonna add it to the link section over on the right hand side of this here blog. Most of these mock drafts will be updating a good deal following the Combine and all the way up to draft day. It'll be interesting to see who moves up and who moves down following their performances in Indy.

Of course, trades like the possible Randy Moss one, pretty much make the mock drafts utterly worthless. Still fun, though.

Yeah, I see Heath Miller's name a lot on Lion mock drafts. If you look at the Lionbackers website, they have a page where they run down some draft sites and who the Lions select in those mocks.

And how was I supposed to know everyone would get all trade happy? I wrote the entry in advance in order to coincide with the opening of the Combine. Sue me if other stuff popped up!
